Strength is for EVERYONE

Strength is foundational across many aspects of life, regardless of age. Building and maintaining strength offers more than just muscle mass—it boosts functional ability, resilience, and independence in a wide range of scenarios:

For daily tasks and hobbies: Whether it's yard work, home repairs, or recreational activities, strength and stamina make it easier to stay active and enjoy these pursuits without excessive fatigue.

For caregiving: Caring for others, especially those with limited mobility, often requires lifting or supporting their weight. Strength ensures you can help safely and effectively.

For parenting: Kids are full of energy, and having muscular endurance enables you to play with them, keeping pace with their physical activities and building lifelong memories.

For self-defense and work: Whether for personal safety, sports, or physical jobs, strength provides the resilience necessary to protect yourself or perform demanding tasks efficiently.

For lifting and moving objects: From moving furniture to handling heavy equipment or materials at work, strength allows you to engage in these tasks without straining yourself or risking injury.

Ultimately, strength is about more than just lifting weights—it’s about preparing your body for the challenges life throws at you, ensuring you stay capable and independent no matter what comes your way.

One of our athletes, Karen (in her 60s) told me a story the other day about having to pick her mother up from the floor. Her mom fell and couldn’t help herself up. Karen went over and picked her mom up from the floor and walked away feeling proud that she could help her mom in that way. She had said that before joining YCb she wouldn’t have been able to do that.

Imagine being in a situation where you need to do something physically demanding like picking up a loved one but having to call for help because you couldn’t do it yourself. That alone speaks to how important strength is as we age.

Another one of our athletes, Colleen (in her 60s) joined us to maintain and improve her ability to tend to her garden. This isn’t your average garden this garden is massive. She is out there all day hauling dirt, digging, bending over to plant or to rip weeds out of the ground. Since joining Colleen has noticed a tremendous boost in her stamina, strength and mood.

Being strong will always be a good thing.
